Understanding Airflow, Filters & Air Scrubbers in Upflow Furnaces
What Is an Upflow Furnace?
An upflow furnace pulls cool air from the bottom and pushes heated air up into your home through the duct system. These systems are commonly installed in basements or lower levels of residential homes.
Airflow Direction in an Upflow Furnace
1. Return Air enters the system from your home’s vents.
2. Air passes through the filter, catching dust and debris.
3. It then moves into the electronic air cleaner (if equipped), targeting smaller airborne particles.
4. From there, the air moves past the UV air scrubber in the plenum, where bacteria, mold, and viruses are neutralized.
5. Finally, clean, conditioned air is pushed up through the supply ducts and out to each room.
